Welcome!

The purpose of this blog is to give Guilford County School's Art Educators a place to communicate their thoughts and share ideas. I enjoyed reading all of the terrific comments that were being delivered through email and felt that as professionals we needed a place to discuss what is on our minds.

We learn so much from one another. For many of us, we are the only visual arts teacher in our school. It is so rewarding when we get a chance to get together and talk about art, what is working well in our classrooms and what needs improvement. In addition to monthly meetings, this blog can be a source for discussions that can't wait until the next meeting.

Please don't think of this as one more thing that you have to put on your Things To Do List. Respond if you feel like it, share some pictures if you have time, but otherwise just consider this a professional forum for your voice.

Can our tight budgets get cinched any further? How are you stretching your supplies?

I don't know about you, but at our school we are working under a very tight budget. Like always, we are doing fund raisers just to have supplies to teach our classes. I know that we are all feeling the same pinch. Art teachers tend to be very resourceful and will substitute things that are not typically used as art supplies and make them work for projects.
What are you doing to stretch your supplies at your school?

NCAEA Conference in New Bern

If you attended this year's 2010 NCAEA Conference in New Bern, do you have any intereting topics or photos that you would like to share with us? Did you find any new products that were advertised by the vendors that we should look for?

Are We Working Smarter?

I have spent a great deal of time in front of the computer lately doing grades on NC Wise, the personal assessment and the PDP (Professional Development Plan) on the NC Educator Evaluation System. I am hoping that all of this extra time spent on the computer will prove to be a more effective system for grades and teacher evaluations down the road. No doubt, having NC Wise available to parents will be a helpful tool. I wonder how effective the new teacher assessment will be.
What are your thoughts on the NC Educator Evaluation System? Do you feel that this assessment is a more or less realistic way to measure the performance of an art educator?
